Chris is our laser-sharp, pragmatic, and experienced gatekeeper of the money. He’s also been described as “too nice for a CFO”, which is precisely why he’s been our financial unicorn since 2020 – focusing flexibly on the ‘how we do this’ but keeping the end business goal fixed, and so preserving the fun and spontaneity in business.
Chris is the strong, silent type (he’s a thinker), and is always the adult in the room. Consistently focusing on the company without any personal ego, Chris helps the exec team make sure the right amount of money is spent on the right things, and looks after the external stakeholders.
Chris built his career with blue-chip consumer businesses including Unilever, British Airways (Group Treasurer), Barclays (Finance director of Corporate Bank and UK Retail Bank) and Bradford & Bingley (Group Finance Director). Over the past decade, he’s worked as a consultant with a portfolio of scale-up media and tech businesses similar to System1.
Outside of work Chris blows out the cobwebs road cycling (solo and with a club), having previously competed. He is also passionate about the performing arts and attends the theatre and concerts whenever he can. He also enjoys gardening. Chris is married to Julie, a nutritional therapist, and they share an enthusiasm for really great healthy food.
”When it comes to money, I have to be the grown-up! At the same time, I believe it’s important in my role as CFO to be flexible and preserve spontaneity in business.”

The Christmas gathering last year was a real hoot! I joined System1 at the start of the first Covid lockdown, so it was wonderful to meet and get to know people in real life. Everyone was as quirky as I hoped!
(Without even a nano-second of hesitation) A professional cricketer.
