Imagine someone from the UK entering their 60s now. They were a teenager when Jaws and Star Wars came out; they remember Charles and Diana, not the Coronation and danced to disco, not rock’n’roll. It is very unlikely that their lifestyle, interests and shared references match up to the image of “old” they carry around in their heads!
Nearly one-third of the UK population is 55 years and older and this segment accounts for 65% of TV impressions. Yet older people appear in ads much less frequently than those who are younger, and when they do, too often they are stereotyped.
System1 and ITV’s “Wise Up!” webinar shares the latest research on age representation in advertising from the report of the same name.
Moderated by Lorraine Kelly, TV presenter and host of Lorraine, the webinar also features Kate Waters, Director of Client Strategy and Planning at ITV; Jon Evans, Chief Customer Officer at System1; and Alessandra Bellini, Chief Customer Officer at Tesco. Following the main discussion, there was a Q&A for attendees to pose their questions to Lorraine and the panel.
