Our opinion

Super Bowl advertisers like to keep things contemporary, scooping up breakthrough pop acts for their ads. After Cardi B stole the show in Amazon’s 2017 ad, it’s Lil Nas X’ turn. The “Old Town Road” hitmaker becomes the first rapper to headline a 5-Star ad, taking on veteran cowboy actor Sam Elliott in a western dance-off with a bag of Doritos at stake. The key here is the high level of between-ness Nas X and Elliott show as they react to each other’s moves with tons of non-verbal communication, which the right-brain loves.
