Our opinion

Nintendo have carved out a niche as the most successful videogame advertisers by moving the games away from centre stage and focusing on people playing them. It’s in line with the gaming giant’s brand as the choice for families – who also happen to own the most recognisable videogame IP in the world.

Nintendo have advertised at the Super Bowl before but have never quite cracked how to step up to the big night. Until now – when they make a typical Nintendo ad, except the person having fun playing the same is Serena Williams. The superstar athlete is seen playing a tennis game (of course) then doing some training with a dance game. Do you believe that Serena plays the Switch? It doesn’t really matter – the combination of fun and star power is enough for a strong 4.6-Stars, the brand’s best Super Bowl performance yet.
