Movie trailers and brand ads are only distant relations. They have superficially similar aims, but while a branding ad needs to resolve its emotional arc, a movie trailer exists to keep audiences hanging and lure them back. It’s designed to be exciting, not emotionally satisfying. So not many trailers show up in our Top 10 lists. An exception this year – the sequel to the Minions Movie, which adeptly reminded viewers of how much they loved the little yellow critters.
