Our opinion

2019 was a year with few inspirational ads, as brands decided to entertain for commercial gain instead. Secret, like our winner Microsoft, chose to celebrate women’s empowerment, with a dream of a day when women football players stop being a novelty. What Secret did well was acknowledge some of the tension around the topic, with one fan initially perturbed by the reveal but then cheering the player on just as hard. Even a simple storyline can make an ad more special.
