Amazon’s 2025 summer ad, “Meet Cute Chaos”, is back on screens after its first successful run last year. The commercial uses a structure that Amazon have perfected over the last few years – storytelling, plus products, plus cool soundtrack equals effectiveness.

In this case the story has fun with teen romance cliches, offering a somewhat subversive twist at the end. A young woman bumps into a cute guy at college and their possessions spill on the floor. Could be a romantic moment – but wait, she realises her nail polish is half flaked off, and even worse, her deodorant could definitely use a top-up.

Amazon are on hand for rapid and low-cost deliveries of these everyday college essentials, and she picks them up – only to bump into another guy, and the cycle begins again. The whole thing has a neat retro soundtrack, 80s synthpop classic “Only You” by Yaz. And in Amazon’s usual style it’s told without words, meaning it can work across languages and markets.

The ad works because it’s funny, it’s surprising, and it’s all about human connection, with the products only playing a supporting role. Amazon’s service is central to the story but the focus is on the girl and her meet-cute mayhem, which makes it strike a human chord. As one happy viewer says on our Test Your Ad Pro report, they like the ad because it reminds them of how they met someone at college. It’s a recognisable, relatable and resonant piece of work.

The Test Your Ad Pro verdict is that the ad’s good all round, with a 3.7-Star Rating and good short-term Spike and Brand Fluency scores too. But Test Your Ad Pro also lets us take a closer look into the diagnostics around the ad, like that viewer comment.

A look at the Key Associations tab, for instance, tells us that as well as the brand itself and the idea of college, the top associations are all aspects of the business Amazon will be very happy to see feature – “good quality”, “reliable” and “fast”. The ad isn’t explicitly stressing any of those things; they emerge naturally from the story, which makes them more powerful.

We can also see that the ad does extremely well on “Showmanship” features vs “Salesmanship” – Showmanship features are elements that are tied to attention, Star Rating, and profit and market share gain. They include features like knowing glances (a vital part of this ad!), a recognisable place, a story unfolding and a catchy tune.

And we can also look at a demographic breakdown of responses to see that the ad might be resonating particularly well with younger viewers. The demographic results feature low base sizes, so they’re a guideline not a predictive measure, but they do show a warmer response among the younger part of the sample.

It’s another strong ad from Amazon, and Test Your Ad Pro lets us get under the hood to see where “Meet Cute Chaos” really excels.
